Outdoor advertising is nothing new. Billboards have been a familiar sight along British roads and in cities for decades now. The modern ones can even rotate ads electronically.

Advertisers are always on the lookout for new and innovative opportunities in outdoor advertising. That's why white van advertising holds the possibility of becoming a real success story for those who grab the opportunity it presents.

British roads have millions of cars, trucks, buses and vans that are all rolling this way and that, going somewhere every day. Of all the vehicles to be seen it is the ubiquitous white van that is arguably the most common. They seem to be everywhere, and they are too. Companies of all sizes, big and small, have white vans. They travel millions of miles every year. Here lies a great opportunity.

It's true that many of Britain's white vans already have van advertising on them. Usually the livery is the company logo and name with perhaps some contact details. It isn't usually very focussed advertising, if in fact it can be called advertising at all. It's a passive way of saying, "We're here!" It may take in a few customers, but no real revenue at the end of the day. There's a better way though.

White vans that don't carry advertising or company details can now carry other people's advertising and get paid to do so as well. For any small business this is a real win-win situation. They get the normal use of their van, but they now have monthly revenue coming in that can cover the cost of running the van. Van advertising in this way seems so obvious when you think about it.

The secret to how this is so easily possible lies in van wraps. This technology was first used in the early 1990s. The first vehicle to be wrapped with advertising was actually a bus, but the same principle applies to all vehicles.

A thin film of vinyl that has computer-generated graphics printed on it is wrapped onto the van body in such a tight fitting and clinging way that it appears to be part of the body paintwork.

The effect of van advertising through van wraps is simply amazing. It can transform an ordinary white van into a specialised mobile outdoors advertising platform instantly, and it can make money for everyone involved too.

Perhaps the best thing about van wrap advertising is the fact that the wrap can be removed quite easily too. It shouldn't affect the paintwork in any way, leaving the van to be just another white van, or one waiting to be transformed again with someone else's advertising wrap.

Anyone who has seen van advertising at its best through van graphics wraps cannot fail to be impressed. Long gone are the days when visual advertising on a vehicle was limited to the undoubted skills of the sign writer. Now the whole world of the computer is at hand and the only real limit is the imagination of the designer and they are getting better all the time too.
