Anyone that has raised children knows that it can be a challenge. There are all sort of hurdles to clear, whether it's potty training, learning good table manners, or figuring out that sharing works better for everyone. With all of those things kids have to learn, it's a hassle if you have to deal with the doctors in lab coats, too. If your children are sick, it means you probably have to take off work, not to mention watch your children go through pain and misery. And when they're not feeling well, it's hard for you to feel well, too. They don't sleep as well, they're generally irritable, and they may not want to eat very much. All in all, they're pretty much a handful, which can be exhausting.

So what do you do when your children have chronic problems with one of the most dreaded issues for small children, ear infections? Some will bring their kids to the doctor at the first sign of discomfort, hoping that they will give them antibiotics to make the infection go away. Others may have an aversion to those in Landau uniforms and choose to let the ear infection run its course. This might be a viable option, but the child may be in more pain, and the parents may have to deal with a lot of crying. Others will look for a more permanent solution and get tubes put in their child's ears. While this brings up some questions as well, it can be a very good way to stop the cycle of ear infections and give a child some relief.

One thing you must do with children who have tubes in their ears to make sure water doesn't fill the ear and get into the eardrum. This can cause infection and give you another trip to see someone in a medical scrub uniform. Instead, if your child is going swimming, make sure to have them wear earplugs. They'll stop water from entering the inner ear. Some doctors recommend wearing earplugs for all water activities, including baths and surface swimming, while other will say children need them only if they'll be submerging their heads in the water. Either way, earplugs seem a small price to pay for an ear infection every month or two. If you're thinking about tubes for your child, make sure to consult your doctor to get their expert opinion.
