What is information overload? Information overload is a situation wherein one has so much information at hand about a particular subject/topic and as a result, one gets overwhelmed and doesn't know where and how to start and end up accomplishing or doing nothing.
We now live in a modern information era where cable televisions, mobile phones, social networking and other modern means of communications are taking center stage and the most prominent of these is the internet.
We all know that the internet is a vast source of information. Information about anything under the sun. Search and research works are now at everyone's fingertips through the click of a mouse using the power of the internet.
What do people search for on the internet? People search for various topics depending on what challenge one is undergoing at the moment. If one is a student, it could be that he/she is researching for a homework given by the teacher; if one is a sportsperson, it could be that he/she is researching for a topic that could improve his sports ability; if one is sick or has an illness, it could be that he is searching for the information on how to cure that particular illness and if one is a woman who belongs to the baby boomer, she could be searching for ways or solutions to retard the aging process but I guess what most people search for are online income opportunities where one doesn't have to get out of the home and be away from the family, where one could spend most time with the family.
If one has to search for" income opportunities" at Yahoo, there are about 154,000,000 sites for it and 42,900,000 at Google.
Just imagine these vast information for just one single topic/subject! How can the human mind get a good grasp of all these? And to think that each site claims to have the best opportunity being offered. With this kind of situation, there is a tendency for one to grab this and grab that and become a "jack of all trades" but not a master of one" and end up not achieving anything at all and calling it a scam although it is not.
Here are some ways how not to get overwhelmed by information overload in the areas of "income/business opportunities":
1. First, list down all your areas of interest and expertise. If you come up with more than one, narrow them down based on the strength of interest and knowledge that you have in each area or field of expertise. Repeat the process until you come up with only one. For example, you are interested in the following:
a) Selling other people's products for which you have a good experience doing it offline;
b) Having a product of your own to sell;
c) Multi-Level Marketing or Networking for which you succeeded at first but failed in the later part
d) Doing handicrafts
You have to come up with only one. Ask yourself what is it that I really want to do?
2. Next, make a plan of action because without a plan, it's easy to get sidetracked by things that seem to be important but have little to do with achieving the thing that you want in #1. Again, write down those plans. Did you know that there is magic in writing it down?
So write it down and make it happen;
3. Set Goals. What are your immediate goals? Define where you'd like to be at the end of this year and five years from now.
Your goals should be specific, serious and should have deadlines. Say, a $ 100,000 income within 6 months;
4. After you have done all the first three steps, it's now time for you to gather the information you need to get you working on those goals. Gather information up to the level where you can take action. Use your discretion on what information when used could give you the best result. Do not grab everything that is offerred or you'll end up exhausted, burned and not able to take action;
5. Stay focused on achieving the goals that you have set up. Close your eyes to all other information although you can always come back and gather some more information as you go along.
Following these ways I'm sure you will never Fail.
