One of the techniques that you can use that will help to prevent migraines is to look at your diet. Although there is no exact science linking migraines to certain foods, the fact is there is link.
The biggest problem with this is that food triggers are different for each migraine sufferer. Therefore it is not as simple as a doctor making a general recommendation of foods to avoid. The migraine sufferer would need to understand how they can figure that out for themselves.
One approach to determining the foods that cause a problem is to use the elimination approach.
How Do You Start The Elimination Method?
Firstly it is important to put together a list of foods that you suspect the most. For example you may be suffering a migraine headache each and every Saturday. In which case you must have a look at what you do differently compared to every other day.
It may be that each Friday night you have drinks with some friends. And it just may be the type of drinks you have or even the type of snacks you eat with these drinks that could be effecting you. It could even be the environment that you have the drinks. There are so many combinations of different triggers available, and it may be just the one small trigger that is causing such a big problem.
But it is your responsibility to identify these possible suspects. The second step is to then eliminate these suspects until the suspect is identified. This is a tough task but needs to be done. You can then slowly reintroduce those items eliminated once the actual suspect has been identified.
Even though you identify one trigger, do not stop there. It is very likely that there are several triggers and you need to identify all of them.
