How to begin a website - Website creation 101

Welcome to my guide on how to start your very first website! It's wonderful to establish your presence online because many other avenues are opened up to you as well as the fun factor of it all!

Let's get started!

First, you're going to need to purchase a domain name (yoursitename.com), you can purchase one from your choice of several providers online.

Second, you're going to need an honest web hosting provider that you like. Things to look for are:

Uptime - Constant ability for your website to be able to be accessed online by visitors.  
Features - Make sure that the package that you choose is right for you, what we're meaning is if you plan to build a personal art site to showcase your work then you'd want to make sure that you'll have enough disk to store your graphic files, as well as sufficient data transfer to share these files online. Make sure the host has the specific features that you'll need for your website as well, generally, most web hosts will have all the basics that you'll need to begin, but sometimes, even these aren't enough.  
Price - Unless price isn't an issue to you, you'll need to choose a host that you can afford. Most hosts bill clients monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and annually. Usually, when a prospect choose an annual billing term they are given some type of promotion (money off, free domain name, etc) for paying in advance.

Third, once you've completed the above, you should be able to immediately login to your account if you're host supports instant account creation. If so, login to your account to your control panel, here is where you can begin to administer/create your website. If your host supports it, then you should be able to easily install things like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, OSCommerce and many other web scripts at the click of a button - allowing you to easily create your website in minutes!

Fourth, now that you're website has been established somehow, you should focus on it's content and promoting it, we recommend using SEO (search engine optimization techniques) to do so, this specific information is provided by most helpful web hosting providers.
