Facelifts have managed to lose their old reputation of leaving long, visible scars and giving people a startled and wind swept look, thanks to the development of new techniques and methods of lifting specific areas of the face. Nowadays scars are almost unnoticeable and it is possible to just have a certain part of your face lifted rather than the whole thing, focusing purely on problem areas and giving a much more natural look. These type of mini facelifts will often leave people thinking you look incredibly healthy and youthful without even considering the fact you may have had a facelift.

Deep plane facelifts, also know as extended SMAS facelifts, are designed to improve the appearance of the cheek area along with nose-to-mouth lines that become more prominent as we age. This type of facelift can also be used to help improve the appearance of jowls. It is possible to combine a deep place facelift with other cosmetic procedures to complete the enhancement of your appearance. The scars left by this procedure are minimal, and the recovery time is fairly short but not all surgeons are able to carry out this type of facelift.

Mask lifts, also known as subperiosteal facelifts, improve the appearance of the forehead and mid-face by moving the deepest layers of the face upwards. The incisions for this procedure are made in the scalp and mouth so no visible scarring is left. This type of facelift is commonly performed on younger people who have disproportionate mid-face aging. It is very effective on nose-to-mouth lines, laughter lines and eyes and has dramatic results.

Even with mini facelifts, the recovery period will be lengthy, with the first 12 hours being the most uncomfortable. It is recommended to try and sleep in a propped up position for the first few hours after surgery to minimize discomfort and swelling. Sleeping sitting up will speed recovery along nicely, so while it may be uncomfortable it is worth the temporary inconvenience for the results.

It may well be possible to achieve the results you want with a non-surgical procedure, so before you jump in and have any kind of surgical facelift carried out it is worth investigating other options first. Any kind of surgical procedure comes with it's own inherent risks such as infection or scarring, so it is never a decision that should be taken lightly.
