Have you just gotten a guitar and don't have a clue on how to play it? In this article I'll be giving my recommendations on places to go online based on some good research I've done around the web.
Your decision on which way to take guitar lessons will be based mostly upon how much you're willing to spend. Now, as far as free and easy guitar lessons, my motto is usually that you get what you pay for. But there is half-way decent free information if you know where to look.
General information sites like eHow and about.com are good places to start. about.com is a great site for beginners. It covers a whole mass of different topics from the parts of the guitar to tabs. There's also 8notes and 911tabs if you want to learn tabulator first.
There are video sites like YouTube and Tubestreamer which are great for the visual aspect of learning guitar. But as with any free resource It's important to do a little research on the instructor if you can. Find out how much experience/knowledge this person has with guitar. You don't want to be taught the wrong technique.
Before choosing a guitar course think about what your goals and how hard you're willing to work to achieve them. Developing a clear picture in your mind is important for matching you up with the type of lesson that is best for you.
Decide on the type of guitar you would like to play. There are two main types: acoustic and electric. The choice of which one to play should be based upon your personal preference mostly. Some instructors prefer beginners to start with an electric because of sound quality and no extra expense as far as an amp. If you like rock music maybe an electric is more for you though. You'll learn guitar equally as fast on both based on the quality of your practicing.
If you're deciding on private instruction make sure you can freely talk and feel comfortable with your instructor. You wont get very far if you feel uncomfortable asking questions.
If you decide self-taught (books, CD's and DVD's) is for you then make sure they're high quality and in depth. I suggest a package set of all three not just one of these to get you started to avoid confusion.
For an easy guitar lesson that you can take online
