Here are some quick ideas you can use for marketing on the internet. Some are paid and some are free, but I have found all of them to be effective.

As you know, different people and different products will produce different results. Always be sure to test your marketing, so you will know what is working and what is not working.

Marketing Ideas

Start your own blog and post to it regularly. Make sure to "ping" your posts to the various blog directories. Also make sure your blog is listed in as many blog directories as possible.

Make relevant and interesting comments on other people's blogs.

Start a forum dedicated to a topic of interest to your target market.

Post on other forums dedicated to topics of interest to your target market.

Write articles, and submit them to article directories.

Participate on Twitter. The jury still is not in on this one. I have just started using Twitter, and I have not had any fantastic results yet. My personal feeling is that Twitter is going to be more of a fad, than an effective marketing tool.

Participate on social bookmarking sites. There are many to choose from, and the more sites you join, the more effective your marketing will be. StumbleUpon, and Digg are two of the more popular sites.

Participate in product give-away events. These events are better at building your opt-in list, than they are at producing immediate sales. This is because these events are "free" give-aways, where you donate a product to the event that visitors can download for free, in return for having those people opt-in to your email list.

Submit your software to software program directories. It is possible to generate a lot of traffic, and a lot of sales this way.

Submit your e-book to e-book directories. This is a good way to get a lot of traffic, but I personally have not seen this as a way to get a lot of sales.

Participate on Facebook. Facebook also offers you the opportunity to advertise on their site. This is very promising, as you have the ability to narrowly target the people who will see your advertising. I can not tell you how effective this is, because I have not yet tried this myself. I will be testing Facebook advertising in the near future.

Participate on MySpace.

Purchase visitors through a Pay-Per-Click program. The best known program of this sort is Google AdWords. My personal results with Google AdWords have been mixed, and some people have difficulty getting Pay-Per-Click to be cost effective. On the other hand, many people have enjoyed great success with Pay-Per-Click programs.

Those are just a few ideas for marketing on the Internet off the top of my head. There are a few more I probably will not think of until after this article is published. This list does not even include all the the offline methods you can use to market a website, or an online product. Not to mention how powerful offline and online marketing can become when used together.

My best advice is to test carefully, and do what is right for you.
