When you realise it's time to start getting fit and working out, your very first thought is likely that you need to sign up to a gym.

Health clubs offer more services - arguably the most notable difference between a gym and a health club is that when you head to the latter, you'll be given the opportunity to try out a whole range of workout and exercise services, from the standard pieces of equipment you'd find in a gym right through to massage and physiotherapy rooms.


Generally speaking, whatever exercise you could carry out to get fit and healthy, there's a good chance you'll be able to find a health club that offers the ability to carry it out there, irrelevant of whether it's a traditional exercise or a modern sport.


There's also likely to be a restaurant or cafe in the health club, too, rather than just the standard vending machines in a gym. And you might just be surprised at how busy these eateries get.

3. There's a different type of clientele at health clubs than at gyms - due largely to the fact you're likely to pay more to attend a health club regularly, you'll find that there's a different type of clientele than at gyms.

Walk into a gym and you'll see people of all ages working out, pouring with sweat and there'll be at least a handful of people who are doing nothing but developing their muscles, flexing them in the mirror every now and again.


Head to health clubs and the whole premise of exercise is different. Yes, people are still wanting to workout so that they can lose weight, but you'll find that it's a lot more relaxed.


There won't be as many people stood at the weights carrying out dozens of bicep curls at once and you won't often find that people are as intense in their workouts as you would at a gym.


Instead, the atmosphere is a lot more relaxed and people very often socialise more in health clubs than they do in gyms, due to this relaxed feel.
