There are a huge variety of different scholarships around, that it is often difficult to sort through them all and decide which ones to apply for. The first four scholarships on this list are some of the most general scholarships available to high school seniors intending to start their studies after graduation. The final one on the list is a fantastic scholarship for students already busy with their undergraduate degrees, if they're lucky enough to meet the criteria.

Â
Ronald McDonald House Charities
If you're a high school senior under the age of 21 and live in an area that has a participating local chapter of this organization, you could get a scholarship for either a two-year or a four-year college program. A list of participating chapters and application forms can be found online. One of the (remarkably) few requirements, of course, is that you have the required achievements to get into college.
Â
Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola has 250 scholarships available to high school seniors for four-year college programs. Of these scholarships, 50 constitute awards of $ 20,000 and the other 200 of $ 10,000. In order to apply for this, you need to have a 3.00 GPA at the end of your Junior year and be planning to attend an accredited tertiary institution. Applications are accepted for the duration of August, September and October. A number of semifinalists will have to complete a secondary application, 250 of these will be invited to Atlanta for interviews by a committee. Unfortunately you may not apply if your parents or grandparents worked for Coca-Cola in any capacity.

Best Buy
The Best Buy @15 program offers $ 1,500 scholarships to 1,000 high school graduates entering undergraduate studies. The application forms can be found online. You can apply for the scholarship as early as 9th grade and the program will track your progress until graduation. The scholarships are awarded to students who show both academic achievement as well as involvement in the community, through working and volunteering. Unlike Coca-Cola above, you can apply for this if you have relatives that work for the company, as long as you are eligible for the program. However, you can only win once - the scholarship is not renewable and you cannot apply again.
Â
Wal-Mart Foundation
There are four different scholarships to apply for through the Wal-Mart Foundation. The Sam Walton Community Scholarship offers $ 3,000 to a high school senior with a 2.5 cumulative GPA who is able to demonstrate financial need. This is the only scholarship on offer that is not restricted to Wal-Mart or Sam's Club associates or dependents of associates. The student must intend to enroll in a two or four-year college program at an accredited school that is listed by the Department of Education. Applications are available online.
Â
General Electric/LULAC
This scholarship is only available to sophomores that are part of a minority group. The student must be enrolled in a business or engineering related Bachelor's degree program at an accredited institution. The student is required to have a 3.25 GPA and to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in order to renew the scholarship. The scholarship is renewable for three years. The application includes a personal statement, references and your college transcript in addition to the application form. Applications are judged on academic achievement, as well as community involvement, writing ability and intent to pursue a career in business and engineering related fields.
