I'm lovin' it. It's everywhere you want to be. Snap, Crackle, Pop. If you immediately thought of McDonald's, Visa, and Rice Krispies cereal, then the advertising sections of these majors companies can rest easy. Even though we may not be completely aware of it, we are constantly inundated with advertising campaigns put into play by businesses' marketing teams. Advertising has become a hugely important part of today's companies as they all battle for the chance to be a part of your consumer products.

Advertising, although nearly omnipresent in our society, has actually been a practice that has existed since Greek times. In Pompeii, the city destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, archaeologists have found boards displaying product and political advertisements. With the creation of printing presses in the 15th and 16th centuries, it became much easier to promote business, plays, and politics by way of handbills and posters.

In the 1800s, newspaper ads became more popular for businesses such as publishers and apothecaries. Ever more quickly came the classified section, commercials during TV, and pop ups on the internet. Companies now devote entire sections to marketing and advertising, with teams of content writers. Also, businesses can hire an advertising firm that specializes in coming up with creative ideas to spread the word about your company.

For the 2009 Super Bowl, the entry price for a thirty second commercial was about $ 3 million-that's an astonishing $ 100,000 per second of airtime. In American Baby magazine, a 14 word ad costs a cool $ 816. You can also advertise on the radio, via billboards, on the side of buses, on taxis, on the internet, during TV shows, and by offering creative promotions.

With all of these outlets for promotion, marketing divisions and advertising companies have come up with a variety of "signature" items meant to inspire an immediate connection with a particular business. For instance, for commercials aired on the radio and on TV, many businesses have developed a certain jingle or song that reminds the listeners or viewers of the product.

Also, other businesses decide to hire a spokesperson who is present throughout all of their commercials. Sometimes, the person is someone who is already famous, while other TV personalities become celebrities due to their appearance in the ad itself. Advertisements in print, such as in newspapers and magazines, often include a slogan, symbol, or other recognizable image that relates to the company.

When determining the specifics of an ad campaign, the ad executive must decide on a target audience. For a company that produces items relating to babies, the ads might go in parenting magazines and in newspapers. For fast food companies, a symbol visible on billboards or jingle over the radio can be incredibly productive-people who see or hear a reminder of the fast food while driving might be tempted to pull into one of the restaurants.

There are a number of ways to promote your product and develop a healthy, thriving business. For more interesting and informative articles on businesses, check out the Business Directory today.
